Privacy Policy

Last updated: 01 April 2026

At Dennis Butters Jewellery (DBJ), we respect your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our site or make a purchase. By using our site, you agree to the practices described here.

1. What We Collect

We collect two types of information:

  • Device Information: When you browse, we automatically collect data like your IP address, browser type, time zone, and how you interact with our site (pages viewed, links clicked). We use cookies, log files, and web beacons to gather this.
  • Order Information: When you buy something, we collect your name, billing/shipping address, email, phone number, and payment details (processed securely by our payment providers).
  • Vault Membership Information: If you apply for DBJ Vault membership, we may collect proof of ownership (order numbers, piece numbers, photos of pieces) to verify eligibility. Together, we call this "Personal Information."

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Fulfill Orders: Process payments, arrange shipping, and send invoices.
  • Communicate: Update you on your order status or answer your questions.
  • Safety: Screen for fraud or risky orders.
  • Improve Our Site: Analyze how people use our site to make it better.
  • Marketing: Send you news or offers only if you've opted in or if it aligns with your preferences. You can unsubscribe anytime.
  • Vault Services: Verify ownership for membership eligibility, maintain authentication records, and provide provenance verification for secondary market transactions.

3. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your data. We only share it with trusted third parties who help us run our business:

  • Shopify: Our e-commerce platform.
  • Payment Processors: To handle credit card transactions securely.
  • Couriers: To deliver your jewellery.
  • Analytics: Tools like Google Analytics (you can opt out of tracking here).
  • Legal Authorities: If required by law (e.g., a subpoena) or to protect our rights.
  • Authentication Services: If you request authentication for resale purposes, we may share verification details with potential buyers or third parties as part of the provenance process — but only with your consent.

These partners are bound by confidentiality and must handle your data securely.

4. Cookies & Tracking

We use cookies to remember your preferences and analyze traffic.

  • Do Not Track: Our site does not currently change its data collection practices when it detects a "Do Not Track" signal from your browser.
  • Managing Cookies: You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling them may affect site functionality.

5. Your Rights (PDPO)

Under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) (PDPO), you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: Ask us to update or correct any inaccurate or outdated information.
  • Withdraw Consent: Opt out of marketing communications or withdraw consent for specific data uses at any time.
  • Complaint: Lodge a complaint if you believe we've mishandled your data. To exercise these rights, email us at connect. We'll respond within a reasonable time (usually within 30 days). Note: We do not charge a fee for access or correction requests, unless the request is frivolous or without reasonable basis.

6. Data Breach Notification

If we discover a data breach that is likely to result in significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) as required by the PDPO.

7. Data Retention

We keep your Order Information for as long as necessary to fulfill your order, comply with tax laws, and resolve any disputes. If you ask us to delete your data, we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it. Authentication records for provenance may be retained indefinitely to maintain historical accuracy.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data from misuse, interference, loss, or unauthorized access. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure. We use industry-standard encryption for payment data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in our practices or the law. We'll post the new version on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the site means you accept the changes.
