Chain Sizing

Getting the right length is essential for how your chain sits and how it looks with your outfit. Chain sizing is straightforward — it's about total length and where you want the piece to rest on your chest.

How to Measure for a Chain

You can easily determine your ideal chain length at home using a piece of non-stretch string or a shoelace.

1. The String Method

  • Prepare: Cut a piece of non-stretch string or use a shoelace.
  • Wrap: Wrap it around your neck where you normally wear a chain.
  • Adjust: Pull it snug around the top of the neck but not too tight. Decide where you want the bottom of the chain to sit on your chest.
  • Mark: Pinch the string where the two ends meet.
  • Measure: Lay the string flat against a long ruler or measuring tape and measure the length in centimeters (cm).
  • Match: Find the closest corresponding length on our list below.

2. Measure an Existing Chain

If you already own a chain that fits you well:

  • Measure: Lay the chain flat against a long ruler or measuring tape and measure the length in centimeters (cm). Include the clasp for total length.
  • Match: Find the closest corresponding length on our list below.

3. Wearing Alone vs. With a Pendant

  • Chain Alone: Choose a length that sits naturally where you want it on your chest.
  • With a Pendant: Heavy pendants will pull the chain down. If you plan to wear a pendant and want it to sit at a specific spot (e.g., mid-chest), size down by one length to compensate for the drop.
  • Testing: Test this by pulling down on the string when measuring to simulate the weight of a pendant and see where it sits.

Available Lengths

We offer five standard lengths in Solid Sterling Silver (925): 62 cm, 68 cm, 74 cm, 80 cm, and 86 cm. All chains are available in two thicknesses: Refined and Statement. Both thicknesses are compatible with all DBJ pendants.

Note: All DBJ chains are measured from end to end including clasp.

Layering

If you plan to wear multiple chains, start with where you want the lowest chain (or chain + pendant) to sit, and work backwards from there to find the shorter lengths.
